Mark Rasmussen

Mark Rasmussen

I started my new career as an independent dealer at the start of 2001 having left Spink and Son after 32 years. Some of you may know little about me. I started as office junior with Spink and Son in 1967, dealing initially with 20th century coinage, banknotes and bullion coins, graduating to running the milled coin section on the second floor, then world coins and Medallions.

I was made an Associate in 1985 and became a Director of the company in 1993. During that time I was privileged to catalogue many  fine collections, H E Manville, Lord Hamilton, Norweb and Selig Pt. II to name but a few. I am a member of the BNTA, a past council member and a previous chairman, a past council member of the IAPN, and a member of the ANA since 1980.  Also from 2004 as an independent dealer a member of the IAPN (The International Association of Professional Numismatists).

I mainly deal in coins of the British Isles and Ireland, from Celtic to the twentieth century. I have published thirty one lavishly illustrated lists, and although lists will continue, from now on they will be online only.
However, if I am asked to sell a large collection on a commission basis as I have done in the past, then if requested, a printed list will be produced.

Since 2001 I have had the pleasure of handling many fabulous collections. List 1, 2 and 3 featured a substantial offering of hammered and milled gold from a private collection. There were four lists produced to sell the extensive Alan Barr collection of Crowns, from 1551 onwards, there were over 700 coins sold. Recent lists include two significant collections, list 27 featured “The Property of a Gentleman” which was a collection of hammered and milled gold, and more recently we offered the L M Noad Collection, a superb collection of high grade milled silver coins, which included two exceedingly rare Halfcrowns, a James II Proof 1687 and a George IV  Pattern 1822.

We also sold the famous Edward VIII 1937 Proof Set, from the Five Pounds down, by private treaty, it sold for over two million US Dollars at the time. Further Edward VIII pieces sold by us include a 1937 Five and Two Pounds, a Proof Penny, a currency brass Threepence, a Charles II 1670 Proof Five Guineas, the finest known Henry VIII “fat face” Sovereign, the legendary 1933 Penny and the unique 1808 Penny. We still have on offer the unique 1952 Proof Penny.

Those of you that I have known for years have been extremely supportive in a variety of ways. I hope I can continue to provide the service you require in return and look forward to helping and advising you and new clients over the years to come....
